Graduation

graduation ceremony
I think a successful program in liberal studies is a program that doesn’t end with graduation. It teases and taunts and tantalizes. It teaches you what you didn’t know you wanted to know. It leaves you both humbled and hungry for more, in awe with a desire to remain so, eager to resume an intellectual journey that itself becomes the destination.
Robert Graham ’00 (Graduation Address May 2001)

Completion of a graduate degree at Duke University is a significant accomplishment and one of life’s important markers. Whether the degree is personal enrichment, career enhancement or an open door to further study, we are proud of the achievements of our graduates.

Graduate Liberal Studies Hooding Ceremony

Each May, graduates from September, December, and May are recognized at the Graduate Liberal Studies Hooding Ceremony. Family members and friends, faculty supervisors and GLS staff gather at this ceremony to celebrate and honor the many accomplishments of the GLS graduates. The GLS hooding ceremony and reception is held Saturday afternoon during Duke University’s graduation weekend.

Duke University Commencement

In addition to the GLS Hooding Ceremony, GLS graduates are invited to participate in the Duke University events including Baccalaureate services and the Commencement ceremony.
