Timeline to Completion
A key component of the GLS program is the Master's Project. We're here to guide you along the way. Explore the timeline below as early as possible to stay on track for completion of the Master's Project and the GLS program.
Early in semester: Attend Masters Project Planning Session.
Proposal meeting deadline: Spring project: Nov. 15 Fall project: July 15 Summer project: April 15 |
Find a supervisor who will help you draft a proposal. Schedule and attend Proposal Meeting (you, supervisor & GLS chair). |
Proposal submission deadline: Spring project: Nov. 30 Fall project: July 31 Summer project: April 30 | Engage in research consultation with Duke Librarian. Secure Human Subjects approval or waiver (if appropriate). Revise proposal and submit final proposal. |
After final proposal submission |
Obtain permission number and register for LS 850. Consult with supervisor to create work plan and schedule of regular deadlines and meetings (ideally every two weeks). Begin background work on MP. |
First week onward | Begin or continue work on MP. Meet regularly with supervisor. Attend bi-weekly LS 850 (MP Seminar) meetings on Zoom. |
Within first three weeks | Apply to graduate. Consult with supervisor, identify, and invite third reader. Send third reader’s name to GLS. Schedule master’s exam. Lisa Robinson Bailey in the GLS office will assist with this. |
Ten days before master’s exam | Submit completed MP to your committee. |
Day of master’s exam | Present MP and lead discussion at master’s exam conversation. |
Two weeks after master’s exam | Complete revisions and submit final version to GLS. |
End of semester | Present work at Student Showcase! Graduate! Watch for email with opportunity to publish MP on DukeSpace. |
