Georgie Goff
As a recent graduate from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Master of Social Work, I am looking forward to expanding and further diversifying my knowledge, skills, and competence at Duke University. Specializing in Community Administrative Practice, I highly enjoy the macro aspects of social, justice, economic, and environmental issues and the development and evaluation of programs, community outreach, educational opportunities, and systematic changes. I have also received my undergraduate degree in social work with a minor in diversity studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. I have worked as a professional dancer and dance instructor in Dallas-Fort Worth for about a decade. I have trained and performed at places like Broadway Dance Center in New York, Disney World Orlando, Florida, and the Toyota Music Factory in Texas. My recent work and research have revolved around the use of experiential learning within the social work curriculum for undergraduate and foundation courses for the teaching of self-awareness, Latinx health disparities in the Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth areas, Photovoice research within undocumented Latinx immigrants communities concerning COVID-19 in Texas, grant development, higher mortality rates from cervical cancer in Latinx communities in Tarrant County, TX, development, and dissemination of health educational materials and resources, and serving as a Student Health Advocate. To remain grounded, I spend a lot of time with my spouse and our dog Coco, visit with my family, draw, and ensure that I focus on my mental well-being.
