Welcome, Students!

Hello and welcome back to GLS new and returning GLS students. We're excited to share the journey with you as we embark upon a new school year and we're kicking things off with a new weekly e-newsletter. Look for an update each Monday throughout the year as we bring you news about courses, important deadlines, student and alumni news, events, and opportunities.

GLS Fall Seminars Address Timely Matters

Still trying to nail down your fall schedule? There are a few seats left in Crime and the City (starts tonight, 8/26) and Russian Cultural History: From Czars to Commissars (starts 8/27).

Work Study Opportunity

The Duke College Advising Corps, a program of the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership, is seeking a program assistant to support coordination of programming and administrative efforts. A candidate’s work-study allocation will determine the number of hours worked and work schedule, we anticipate that graduate assistants will work between 5-7 hours per week at $18 per hour. Please send a short resume and brief cover letter highlighting relevant experience to Girija Mahajan, gm95@duke.edu. Please state the (expected) amount of your Duke and or Federal work-study allowance. Email if you have questions.

Alumni Spotlight: Rebecca Brewster Stevenson

Alumna Rebecca Brewster Stevenson, who graduated from the MALS program in 2007, is one of several GLS alumni authors. Rebecca's Christian inspiration book Wait: Thoughts and Practice in Waiting on God, was published this past June by Light Messages Publishing. Her first novel, Healing Maddie Brees, also by Light Messages, debuted in 2016.

Research Librarian is Blue Devil of the Week

Carson Holloway is known by all GLS students. He is one of the two research librarians who each semester have facilitated our three hours of library research instruction in the core course, and he was just named Blue Devil of the Week. Read more about Carson at DukeToday.
