GLS Biweekly Update - December 07, 2021

The GLS staff currently are working a hybrid schedule. Email and phone (GLS main number - 919-684-3222) remain the best way to reach us.

Happiest of holidays, GLS community!

Congratulations to all of you for surviving a fall semester in the strange liminal space between our old “normal” and whatever is coming next. I hope that the next few weeks bring you time for rest, relaxation, and family and friends.

Although we remain cautious due to the emergent omicron COVID variant, we are grateful for the vaccinations and masks that have this fall allowed us renewed opportunities to connect with one another in person, especially in GLS classes, and, from time to time, on the GLS porches. We look forward hopefully to more of these times in the spring, when several new students will join our numbers.

For now, I want to let you know that GLS staff will continue to be available on a hybrid basis at GLS house through the end of next week (December 17). For the two weeks after that (December 20-31), as is our custom, we will close GLS House, and staff will be working remotely when not taking vacation. Your best bet during that time will be to email if you need the staff’s help.

Be well!

Warmly,

Anne

Race and Bias Conversations Series: RCR Forum: Becoming an Upstander

SAVE THE DATE! Friday, January 14, 2022: The Race and Bias Conversations series kicks off spring semester with a highly interactive skill-building workshop. In order to help create a culture of respect and civility, we need to learn how to “step in” when we see harmful or disrespectful behaviors. Through presentation, discussion, and role plays, we’ll consider barriers to intervening, explore different ways we can intervene, and then share tips for moving forward. Click here to register for this online event.
