Drop/Add Ends
TOMORROW, JANUARY 19
After the drop/add period ends, any schedule change must be routed through the student’s academic dean identifying the extenuating circumstance for the change. Late drops may result in a grade of “W” on the student’s transcript.

Master’s Project Planning Session
Sunday, January 23, 2:00pm-4:30pm
If you are currently taking your fifth or sixth course, you need to attend the Master’s Project Planning Session on Sunday, January 23. This info session lays out all of the possibilities and expectations for the GLS master’s project. We will also review the timeline of prerequisites you must complete before your project semester, and study some actual master’s project proposals to see how they work. The MP Planning Session is required for all students during their fifth or sixth course.
We will meet by Zoom. You can register by contacting Kent Wicker at kent.wicker@duke.edu with the email heading “MP Planning Session.”
Oxford 2022 Update

Oxford Summer School a Go for 2022!
After being canceled for the past two years due to COVID, the University of Oxford is planning to move ahead with the 2022 International Summer Schools. Preliminary course information is now available. Oxford has not yet opened the application period, so the usual GLS application deadlines will be pushed back a few weeks. We’ll let you know as soon as we have more information. In the meantime, you can have a look at the program options on the GLS website.
A few things to note:
- The application and all accompanying materials must be submitted to GLS, not Oxford. Anne will write the required recommendation letter for each applicant and we will forward all the applications to Oxford at once.
- GLS students may attend one of four programs for three units of Duke credit: English Literature, History, Politics, and Society; Creative Writing; or the International Politics Summer School.
- Tuition, room, and board will be billed via the Duke Bursar in May. You will be required to pay an advanced deposit of $500 with the application; if Oxford cancels the Summer Schools, your deposit and any tuition and fees paid to Duke will be refunded.
- Students may request en suite accommodations or shared accommodations at a reduced rate. The costs vary by program. You will pay the costs listed on the GLS website. The Oxford course costs are adjusted so that students do not pay tuition to both Duke and Oxford.
More information should become available soon. We will keep you posted on the application process, but until then, plan on submitting your application by March 1. In the meantime, feel free to contact Lisa should you have any questions.
