Join Us for Porch Sitting Via Zoom

We had a wonderful group of alumni and students attend the GLS (virtual) Porch Sitting last week, and we're doing it again this Thursday and every Thursday through the end of the semester. The fun starts at 5 PM, but feel free to drop in anytime during the hour. Dr. Anne Whisnant will host in her Zoom Meeting Room. Just grab a glass of whatever you have, come to your comfortable spot, click the the button below, and join us to chat! Pets welcome!

Ken Ilgunas (MALS 2011)

Sheridan Wilbur (above) penned a TGS Alumni Profile of GLS alum, author Ken Ilgunas.

First-year MALS student Sheridan Wilbur has written an wonderful profile of author Ken Ilgunas (MALS 2011), who earned his master's degree while secretly living in a van in a Duke parking lot in order to graduate debt-free. His book Walden on Wheels is account of that experience. Sheridan's profile appears online as part of the Graduate School's Alumni Profile Series. Sheridan has also published a longer version at Medium.com.

A Conversation with Alumni in the Humanities and Social Sciences - Via Zoom

This Thursday, April 2, 12-1:30 PM - Join The Graduate School and recent and distinguished alumni in humanities and social sciences disciplines for an informal conversation hosted via Zoom. Meeting information will be shared with registered attendees. Visit the TGS website for details.

Join a WEBBY and EMMY award-winning team and help make podcast/video/photo/social and web projects at the Sanford School of Public Policy (SSPP). See the Duke Careers website for more information.

Fulbright and Grants Abroad for Graduate Students

Get professional or research experience abroad for 6-12 months! Staff from Nationally Competitive Scholarships at Duke will tell you about all you can do around the world with a Fulbright and differentiate the types of grants available. All Duke students and alumni should apply through an on-campus process with deadlines beginning in early summer. Come learn about the possibilities that a Fulbright offers and how Duke can help you develop your strongest application.

Other opportunities abroad that may be of interest: Gates Cambridge for further graduate study at Cambridge University, the Luce Scholars Program for an experiential year in Asia for those who have not yet had in-depth experience there, and DAAD awards for research or further graduate work in Germany.
