Student News!

This year's AGLSP conference will include Duke GLS students and alumni. Students Chase Pikarsky and Kelly Davis, as well as alumna Anahad Kaur, were chosen to present. Congratulations to all! Stay tuned for dispatches from San Diego and check out a preview below.

ICYMI: "No Way Out: An Oral History of Sunburned Hand of the Man" from Kelly Davis at Aquarium Drunkard, an eclectic audio journal focused on daily reviews, interviews, features, podcasts, and sessions. Listen to Kelly's project here, or wherever you enjoy podcasts.
Congratulations to students Andrea Ryan and Kalei Porter who received the GLS Endowment Award for academic excellence. GLS Service Day at Jubilee Home


Although it was a bit of a wash with the rainy weather, folks enjoyed gathering for the GLS Service Day at the Jubilee Home. Thanks to student Pete Crispell for organizing this wonderful work!
Student Opportunities

- The Graduate School (TGS) offers several workshops and programs specifically designed for students in master’s programs as part of the Professional Development Series. New this year is a subscription to Beyond Graduate School, an online career training platform.
- The Graduate School also offers the Professional Development Grant to fund (up to $2,000) student efforts to offer professional development programming. The deadline for proposals is October 15 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern.
- Responsible Conduct of Research Forums. All master's students are required to complete one RCR forum in addition to those presented at Orientation (GS 714 and 715). Complete your RCR requirements early so you don't have to worry about them later! See the fall RCR forum schedule here.
- If you haven't already, check out Duke F1RSTS, the network of first-generation graduate and professional students at Duke!

Fuqua School of Business is holding its virtual information session on October 23 & 26 for those interested in the Ph.D. in Business Administration. You can register for this event on their website.
GLS House Porch Sitting
This Wednesday, October 4, 4:00-5:30 PM
Please join us this Wednesday for the next installment of the GLS Porch Sittings! These gatherings are informal opportunities for all those in the GLS community to gather and make connections - old and new. Light refreshments are provided.

- The Graduate Writing Lab offers regular accountability and catered feedback. Tuesday, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (Bostock 121) and Wednesday, 3:00 to 6:00 pm (Bivins 207)
- The GPSC Duke Community Pantry is open to graduate students Saturdays 12:00 - 2:00 pm at the GPSC House.
- The Duke Student Assistance Fund was established to better support master's students who may be experiencing difficulty providing for their basic needs during this extraordinary time.
- Blue Devils Care is a new mental telehealth service that can provide support wherever you may be located currently. You can access the service by using the key DUKE2020.
- The Duke Career Hub offers career support, content, and resources.
- The International House (iHouse) is a home away from home for international students.
- New resource for reporting Harassment, Discrimination, and other concerns: An Interactive Guide for Graduate School Students
