GLS Biweekly Update September 27, 2022

GLS staff members continue to work remotely while our HVAC unit is being replaced. We anticipate returning to a hybrid schedule in October. Email remains the best method of communication.

GLS House Porch Sittings

Please join us for a special Homecoming edition of Porch Sitting on Friday, September 30, from 4:00 to 5:30 PM. These gatherings are informal opportunities for all those in the GLS community to gather and make connections - old and new. Light refreshments are provided. In the event of inclement weather, this event will move indoors. If there is severe weather, this event will be canceled.

RCR Forum: Reproducible Research Practices

September 29, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM This workshop will introduce the concept of “reproducibility” and foundational strategies that can increase the reproducibility of your work particularly related to organization, documentation, literate coding techniques, version control, and archiving data and code for future access and use. 

Roots, Experiences, and Future of Climate Justice

September 30, 12:00 - 1:15 PM

Join the Duke Climate Commitment for a discussion about the roots of the climate justice movement and reflections on how to create an equitable and actionable vision of climate justice.

The Dean’s Research Award for Master’s Students will provide up to $1,000 to fund the purchase of materials and supplies to support research relevant to a master’s student’s degree completion or research/conference travel. Applications open until September 30.

North Carolina Latin American Film Festival

September 30 - October 29

The NC Latin American Film Festival (UNC-Duke Consortium in Latin American and Caribbean Studies) officially takes place October 11 - 19. But you can start early with two viewings at the Rubenstein Arts Center (9/30 & 10/6). All films and events are free and open to the public.

Revising for Structure: A Writing Workshop

for Social Sciences and Humanities Graduate Students
