Professor's Film Receives Festival Award

Charles D. Thompson, Jr., Professor of the Practice of Cultural Anthropology and Documentary Studies at Duke University, received the Spirit of the Mountain Award from the 2021 UPIKE Film Festival for his latest documentary Rock Castle Home. The film follows descendants of a mountain community displaced by the construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Professor Thompson was recently featured in Duke Magazine.

GLS was fortunate to have Professor Thompson teach a new seminar for our students this past spring entitled "Migrations: Pilgrims, Immigrants, Refugees, and Tourists - A Study of Humanity through Movement."
