LS Seminar Lineup for Spring 2020
Registration for spring classes begins on Wednesday, October 30. Full GLS seminar details are posted on the GLS website.


Faculty Spotlight: Melissa Malouf
GLS Advisory Committee member Melissa Malouf will read from her work on the opening night of the Blackburn Fiction Festival, this Wednesday, September 25, at The Durham Hotel Mezzanine. Dr. Malouf is one of four active creative writers currently teaching at Duke English to be featured at the opening event. See the complete Festival lineup at Duke English.

Laura Ritchie
GLS student Laurie Ritchie (on right), former director and co-founder of the Carrack Modern Art in Durham, is interviewed along with current director Saba Taj in this Indy Week piece on the critical space the gallery provided for emerging artists for eight years.

Student Seeks Subjects for Master's Project Research Study
GLS student Leonora Minai invites individuals who have lost a loved one in a fatal car crash in North Carolina, to consider participating in the North Carolina Fatal Car Crash Grief Research Study. The purpose of this study is to assist people who have lost someone in a crash, promote roadway safety and help individuals who develop grief services. Please note: If you are planning a Spring 2020 master's project, you have just two weeks left to hold your proposal meeting. (Deadline Friday, October 11). Contact Dink as soon as possible to get it on the schedule.

TGS Hosts Presentation Skills Workshop for Grad Students
The Graduate School will host a two-part workshop series to learn more about what makes a presenter effective. Through readings, peer feedback, and expert coaching, take your presentation skills to the next level in a supportive environment. Sessions held Friday, November 1 and Friday, November 15 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Apply by Friday, October 4 for this limited-enrollment opportunity.

Porch Sitting with Anne
Mondays, 5:30-6:30 PM - Director Anne Whisnant invites GLS students, faculty, and alumni to join her on the porch on Mondays from 5:30-6:30. Come share a chat, a drink and some snacks! No registration or RSVP needed, just drop by.

GLS Homecoming Open House
October 11, 4-6 PM - Join us for our second annual Homecoming Open House on Friday, October 11, at GLS House. We would love to see you there. Registration is now open for alumni who plan to attend Homecoming events campus-wide. Be sure to look for the Graduate Liberal Studies icon (pictured at left) under Groups so you can add your profile and connect with other GLS grads.
